In this release, we're adding support for all of the Philippines' social insurance platforms which, in addition to the SSS and GSIS, now include Philhealth and Pag-IBIG. These new data sources significantly expands our coverage, and gives you an even wider range of data to work with, including employment history information and contributions.
The Philhealth is the country's largest social welfare program, providing health insurance to more than 96% of the population with an estimated 32 million direct contributors. Membership is mandatory particularly for those formally employed, with contributions ranging from 2.5% in the past to, recently, as much as 4% of income, with a floor and ceiling as far as income amounts for computing the monthly contributions.
Pag-IBIG, or otherwise known as the Home Development Mutual Fund, is a national savings program that is mandatory for anyone earning at least Php 1,000 a month, that has been set up to provide affordable shelter financing for Filipinos. Employees contribute 2% of their monthly income with a maximum of Php 5,000 income for computing monthly contributions.

Top Employers in the Philippines*

  • Access to production mode, using production API credentials, are required to use this feature.
We have also added a list of the Top 1,000 employers in the Philippines, to allow users to find easily their employer. For those companies not in the list, users are asked to input the name of their employer manually. Afterwards we then ask them to either:
  • Connect their social security account, so you can verify the nature of their employment
  • Present a file upload interface, so they can upload any employment or income-related document they receive from their employer, such as tax records or payslips
This employer information shows up in the API metadata or the API results, and allows for employment verification checks or comparisons with data retrieved from their work accounts or uploaded documents.

Filter list of data sources in the Wink Widget

We have added additional filters to sort through the different data providers list in the Wink Widget faster, and now includes:
  • Employers
  • Gig Platforms
  • Government Services
  • HR/Payroll Systems
If you want to customize the list, we have added additional parameters to the Wink Widget SDK that can be used to customize the experience when launching the widget: including filtering the particular list of providers, pinning a data provider to the top of the list so your users can easily find it, and others.

Open API Enhancements

We have made several improvements to our API, the most notable of which is the addition of webhooks.

Webhooks

Webhooks allow us to send events to your application based on any changes happening in your Smile environment, in real-time. Webhooks are particularly useful for getting notifications on asynchronous events, executing actions in your backend system when any of these events happen, or knowing when to refresh your front-end system to display any new data. Event notifications can be sent when a new user is created, an account is successfully connected, an employment document is uploaded, an invitation is sent, or when new any new type data is added such as a user's identity, income, employment, document, ratings, transaction, or contribution. Defining a webhook endpoint, which will receive this data is easy, and can be found in our online documentation.

Contributions endpoint

We now provide SSS, Philhealth and Pag-IBIG contribution data via the /contributions endpoint. You can use this data to derive the income of your user based on their contribution data as reported to these social insurance providers. This endpoint includes the amount, currency and date of the contribution.

Uploads now renamed to Archives

Uploads have now been renamed to Archives. The /uploads endpoint has been deprecated in favor of /archives. Otherwise the behavior and functionality is the same.

Inviting Users To Share Their Data*

  • Access to production mode, using production API credentials, are required to use this feature.
Another new feature in this release is the ability to invite users to share their work-related information with you via email. This is a quick and easy way to get more information from your users without integrating the SDK into your product, or modifying any of your applications or onboarding procedures. This is also useful to use as part of an email campaign or follow up outreach.
With the invitations feature, you can send personalized email messages to your users, which invites them to click on a link which has a hosted version of our Wink Widget just for your organization. Once they connect their work account or upload any file, that data goes straight to you, and can be accessed via the API or the developer portal.

Visualization Of User Data In The Developer Portal

You asked for it, and we've implemented it. We hear your pain in trying to make sense of your users' data in the previous code view in the Developer Portal. So, we've gone and done a visual view of each of your connected users in Smile.
When viewing the list of users in the Developer Portal, simply click on a user ID to see their information.
By default, you'll see all the information your customer has submitted to Smile for your review. You’ll see information like when they submitted their data, their identity information, transactions, ratings – everything that’s available under the data provider they’ve chosen to connect to their account.

JSON Format Viewer

If you still need to see how the JSON data looks like, don't worry! The previous JSON format is still available in the Developer Portal. Simply toggle on the JSON view when viewing a user's information.

Once turned on, you'll see the JSON format for your reference. You can switch back to the user view easily by turning it back off.

Data Sources Supported

Need an easier way to find out what kind of data is available to you from any particular data source? We heard you! Now you can find out what information is available in an easy-to-digest format.

Simply click on Data Sources in the Developer Portal, and find the provider that you want to look into.
